Engine Tuning (Normally Aspirated)

Toyota Power - The Toyota engine fitted to the Elise and Exige S2 is a great basis for tuning, though often (and somewhat unfairly) compared to the Honda K20A, this engine can be tuned very successfully by conventional Normally-Aspirated means, or by the installation of an aftermarket supercharger system - see below.

Tsukuba Track - Our Normally-aspirated solution for the Toyota engines is the "Tsukuba Track", this kit includes a remapped engine management computer, K&N induction system and our own bespoke 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and catalyst bypass link pipe. This gives gains of around 10hp over stock, with significant improvements in mid-range torque and throttle response, thanks to a lowered VVTLi point a gain of around 20 lb/ft is achieved at 6000 Rpm, driveability and throttle response are also considerably improved. Cold start, diagnostic functions and access all remain as factory.

2Bular - As a perfect companion to our Tsukuba Track or Sport kits, 2bular make among the finest back-boxes for the Elise/Exige, they offer increases in power, and an enhanced sporting exhaust note, without intrusion into the cabin at cruise and low speed. Various tailpipe options are available, please call us to discuss.

Engine Tuning (Supercharged)

SC Tuning - There are two sets of supercharged Elise/Exiges - factory, and aftermarket, we cater to both...

RoninSC (Katana) Supercharger For 111R/Exige/2-Eleven - The RoninSC is an effective power upgrade for the Toyota powered Exige and 111R, using the same supercharger as the factory Exige 'S' model, gains of around 50hp can be expected, along with massive increases in low and mid range torque. The kit has a minimal effect on cruise fuel consumption, and thanks to our re-programmed engine management system, retains all of the factory diagnostics.

Tsukuba Sport - The ultimate upgrade for the 111R/Exige is our Tsukuba Sport, this offers the maximum potential from the standard 2ZZ-GE engine by utilising a supercharger and chargecooler system. The chargecooler features all alloy construction and a self contained electronic water circulation system to keep charge temps under control in the most demanding circumstances. Chargecooling is the only way to extract maximum power from a supercharger in total safety. The figures speak for themselves - 260hp+ / 180lbft+ : An upgrade from RoninSC/Katana is available - call for details.

Ronin Gotham Upgrade For Exige 'S' - The Ronin Gotham is a superb starting point to upgrade the factory Exige 'S', this consists of a reprogrammed control module and larger injectors. The remapped control module makes full use of the available power of the Supercharger and gives a gain of around 20hp, plus considerable increases in low and mid-range torque - truly a superb upgrade for the Exige 'S'.

Further tuning upgrades for supercharged cars - Further enhancements can be made to the RoninSC, Exige 'S' and Ronin Gotham cars by using components of our Tsukuba Track kit, the induction and exhaust components of this kit can be applied to the supercharged cars to make further gains in the region of around 20hp and 10-15lb/ft... 260hp+ from the Tsukuba Track!

Toyota Re-map

Problem : Integration - Electronic control system integration is becoming a major issue for automotive tuners, with engine management systems frequently being used to control dashboards, ABS and other safety systems - when tuning a modern car this makes for a complex scenario - remove the standard engine management and risk loosing half of the cars vital functions, or re-map the standard engine management system to suit the tuning demands. With the Toyota powered Elise/Exige/2-Eleven, until recently, there were no easy solutions, as removal of the standard system disabled the dashboard, leaving only one very complex option...

Solution : Toyota Re-map Services - Essex Autosport are proud to be among the only tuners in the United Kingdom to have access to the factory engine management system of the Toyota powered Elise/Exige/2-Eleven models - with real-time re-map capabilities we can tune the Toyota engine with the same degree of precision and control as many aftermarket management systems, all without the need of piggyback control units, or damage to the factory diagnostic systems.

Bespoke Software - Our bespoke software suite allows us access to the majority of parameters in real-time, with full graphing and error reporting. Fuel tables, Ignition tables, Camshaft control and VVTLi points are all easily adjusted, giving us the flexibility to map or re-map for any possible hardware configuration.

Custom Applications - Thanks to our first-hand knowledge of this management system, we are in a position to take care of any Toyota re-map projects, from a custom turbo build, to a fine tune of a supercharger installation. Contact us to discuss your tuning project.

Power enhancement for Toyota ZZ powered Elise/Exige/2-Eleven models

Named after one of the most famous racing circuits in Japan, Tsukuba is synonymous with automotive technology development and cutting edge performance...

Suspension

Nitron Dampers for Road, Track and Full Race - Nitron Dampers are the optimal solution for all road and track applications of the Lotus Elise/Exige S2, from out and out race to occasional track use, Nitron dampers can be tailored to suit the needs of both car and driver.

Nitron supply dampers in three basic configurations. For fast road and track the Nitron 1-Way is ideal, with a single adjustment control on the damper tube which controls bump and rebound in equal measure. For a heavier track bias there is the 2-Way, which features a remote reservoir that houses a bump adjustment control, while the damper tube adjustment controls rebound. For the ultimate track and race applications there is the 3-Way damper, which again features a remote reservoir with adjustment of both fast and slow bump, while rebound is again to be found on the damper tube.

Nitron damping curves can be customised to suit any application, thanks to our links with car limits driver Andrew Walsh. Please contact us with details of any custom applications.

GAZ Dampers - New to the Essex Autosport suspension lineup are GAZ dampers, a lower-cost alternative to Nitron dampers. For our main road and light track applications we recommend 1-Way dampers, with adjustment of bump and rebound handled by one control. They feature lightweight alloy body construction and precision adjustment on the damper tube. For more serious use, 2-Way and 3-Way GAZ dampers are available on request - please contact us for details.

Ohlins / Lotus Motorsport - Also available is the official Lotus Motorsport approved Ohlins upgrade, these 2-way remote reservoir dampers are proven from the Lotus GT Project. This heritage does however come at a price.

Brakes

AP Racing 4-Piston Conversion - By far the greatest brake upgrade available for the Elise S2, is the fitment of AP Racing 4-Piston front calipers. This conversion utilises braided brake lines which offer improved pedal feel and far superior quality of construction to a standard brake line. Also fitted is an uprated master cylinder, which moves a greater volume of fluid than the standard master cylinder and allows for greater clamping load at the brakes, for any given amount of pedal pressure.

Uprated Pads - A well known choice in the Elise world is are Pagid brake pads, available in RS42 for road and track use, or the more aggressive RS14 which ideally is a dedicated track/race brake pad. All Pagids offer superb stopping power, excellent fade resistance and are non-asbestos.

Castrol SRF - An often overlooked part of the brake system is the brake fluid itself, for all advanced road and track applications we recommend Castrol SRF, this is an ultra high performance brake fluid, specifically formulated for competitive track use. Castrol SRF offers the most consistent braking performance under all temperature conditions and is used in Formula One and Indy Car, it exceeds all DOT standards for brake fluids.
