Mugello Duratec Engine Conversion - From £3,795.
An alternative to our successful Tokachi Honda conversion, is our Mugello Duratec.
Unlike other Duratec kits in the market, Mugello is of manufacturer quality in fit,
finish, driveability and performance. The Mugello Duratec conversion is available
as a do-it-yourself installation kit (with or without engine supplied), or as with
our Tokachi Honda conversion - a complete drive in/drive out service from our workshops
in Romford, Essex.
Model Suitability - The Essex Autosport Mugello Duratec conversion is suitable for
all Rover engined Elise, 340R and Exige models... (Enquiries welcomed from owners
of Toyota powered models).
The Duratec 2.0 (HE420) - A highly adaptable Mazda-developed engine, the 2.0 model
(as used in Ken Blocks 850hp Gymkhana car!) was chosen over the 2.3 as it is already
a very well evolved engine (sourced from the Fiesta ST150, and not the lower performance
version found in the Mondeo) and lends itself better to tuning than the 2.3 which
requires a minimum initial investment in tuning parts to bring it up to the power
of even the standard ST150 2.0 engine, the 2.0 also revs out cleaner and has a character
more suited to the Elise application. Our basic kit offers up 180hp (@6700RPM) &
155lb/ft (@5600) at the flywheel.
Bespoke engine management & motorsport wiring harness - Exclusive to the Mugello,
our own bespoke 32-bit engine management system, ensures fuss-free hot and cold starts,
total driveability with none of the usual coughs associated with individual throttle
based cars. The unit is fully programmable in real-time to cope with future upgrades.
Also installed with the kit is a brand-new Denso motorsport alternator.
Tuned-length throttle bodies, Ram-feed Air-box, Braided Fuel lines - Developed specifically
for our 2.0 application, shaft-less butterfly throttle bodies give airflow performance
to within 1% of pure roller throttles, but without the idle issues and complexity.
Both length and taper of the throttle delivery runners has been optimised for our
application. In-house design and dyno testing provided us with an optimum intake
air-box for the space available, maximising low and mid range torque. The Duratec
fuel rail accepts the existing K-Series fuel injectors, and finally, braided fuel
lines are supplied in place of more commonly used plain rubber lines, to neaten the
engine install, and provide a safe and assured coupling.
Custom developed exhaust manifold - Optimised to give superb low and mid range torque,
yet also still deliver blistering top-end performance in the character a Lotus should
be. Our manifold and link pipe combination connects directly to existing rear silencers.
(Power output may vary depending upon rear silencer configuration).
Highly refined engine mount solution - Using the OE bushings where possible, we have
engineered our brackets to couple to the factory engine mount posts and deliver minimal
vibration. Mugello is among the smoothest of all engine conversions yet seen. Lotus
OE torque reaction bushes are maintained to steady the torque reaction movement of
the engine and gearbox assembly, in the same manner as the factory K-Series.
Duratec-Rover gearbox adapter plate - To fit the Duratec to the existing Rover gearbox,
our adapter plate is made from rigid, high quality aluminium billet and uses high
grade fasteners to couple the adapter to both the engine block and the gearbox. Either
the standard C6BP or B4BP (CR) gearboxes can be used, though the CR box offers better
gear spacing and pace for fast road or track use.
Lightweight flywheel - For total safety, our Mugello conversion uses a single piece
motorsport-grade lightweight flywheel assembly, and is not an adapted Rover flywheel,
this ensures peace of mind and total alignment of the clutch assembly with the gearbox
input shaft. The lightweight flywheel also gives superb, punchy engine response at
any revs.
Bespoke Silicone hoses - Unlike some other Duratec kits, Mugello has bespoke silicone
hoses throughout, this ensures safe coolant delivery under hard use in both track
and extreme road conditions.
